sufficent for dig; camera,400mm,& a wide angle lens,memory cards,mobile phone,nikon 900 flash,filters,and a very good tripod carrier,and other small items,don't forget the bigger the bag,the more weight you will have lug around !!
The shoulder staps&waist straps,I found to be very comfortable. all in all I think the rucksack is very good value.

I got this as I was starting a shaky journey up to semi-professional standard and, it must be said, it has come in very handy. Not only does it look very professional, it is sturdy, hard-wearing and the compartments inside are more than enough to hold a small DSLR camera, three or four lenses and a flash. The notebook slot has also come in handy a couple of times and affords pretty good protection to a small laptop.

The only thing I will say against it is that the tripod holder is largely useless - hence perfect for the "pro-sumer" (more serious than a consumer, less expert than a professional). Any half-decent tripod will add too much bulk and weight to the back, tipping you over. It is also difficult and time consuming to adjust the sliding strap, which doesn't go high enough to securely hold a proper tripod. I expect that the next size up, the Lowepro Vertex 200 AW Photo/ 15.4" Notebook Backpack For Digital SLR & 4-6 Lenses - Black, will be more stable a platform for carrying more kit, including a full-sized tripod. The 300 AW, of course, would be ideal. However, I expect that that would probably go beyond the constraints of standard airline hand luggage allowance while the 200 AW and 100 AW do not.

I, unfortunately, am having to replace my Vertex 100 AW now. I have bought a bigger laptop, so it doesn't fit in the slot at the front any more. Beyond that, and despite some pretty rough use at times, my four-year-old bag is still almost as-new.

This backpack fits the following items just fine:
Nikon D60 + 18-55 VR lens (attached)
Sigma 70-200 lens (with hood inverted)
Sigma 150-500 lens (with hood inverted)
and I still have lots of space for an extra lens (such as a fisheye which I would like to purchase soon) extra batteries, battery charger, filters...

Oddly enough I use the space for the PC for manuals and magazines. Since this backpack comes onboard when flying a magazine or two is a nice thing to have. So if you don't care about bringing a PC along, use the space alternatively as I did.

I highly recommend this backpack if you have a similar combo of camera, lens and equipment.

I'm not new to photography, but the 350D is my first digital SLR. It took me a long time to decide on the Canon, but after having a go with it (and the Nikon D70 and D70s), the Canonwas without a doutb the best.
The 18-55mm lens supplied in the kit isnt the best lens you will come across, but if you are new to photography, or maybe can't afford a better lens at the time, by all means by the kit. There isn't anything wrong with the lens, it just seems as if they could have made more of an effort with it.
The image quality is more than stunning. This camera is my first introduction to digital, apart from a cheap Kodak I bought a couple of years ago, and the difference really surprised me. The software supplied with the camera is also excellent. After being used to using a 30 year old SLR with stiff winding movements, and pathetic metering, the Canon simpy took my breath away.
I bought the Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro lens, which suits the Canon perfectly, and I will be buying the Sigma 28-70mm soon.
A lot of people say the main downside of the Canon is its size. For me, it isnt a problem, as I have small hands. It is exceptionally light, even with a seemingly heavy lens. The controls are very conveniently placed, and out of the box, you dont really need to read the manual to take advantage of many of the camera's features. My main use for the camera is astrophotography, a field in which the Canon is far better than the Nikon, Pentax and Olympus digital SLRs.
A little tip is that you buy a high speed memory card in order to do the camera justice.

I was nervous at spending so much on this type of camera. I previously had an Ixus 50, which was great, but was too much of a handbag camera for what I needed it for. My primary concern, having had an old 35mm film camera years ago, was that it would be complicated to use, and effectively put me off using it. Despite this I bought the camera, and have never looked back!

For a novice (and I am) this camera has to be as easy, if not easier than the IXUS. Point, focus, shoot. Simple as that on auto. The standard manual settings are also spot on, and very useful. I'm taking literally hundreds of pictures a night, with superb results, and I have yet to run out of power, despite using the flash for virtually every shot. In short, I love it to death.

Don't buy the camera case though, it's a real dogs breakfast, and there is no card in the box, so you can't use the camera when it arrives!

Step into the SLR world without fear, 2 Jan 2007

I bought this camera recently as I had been getting very frustrated using a digital compact camera by Olympus. I was finding that photography in low light conditions or using a flash was difficult and achieved disappointing results so I bought this camera to address these problems...

The good:

1. Speed. My god, this camera is fast. Boot up time is very quick but it's the shooting time that reeally impresses.

2. Film speed of 1600. I have found this to be invaluable and the grain is not too bad at all. This is a very good low light camera (except, obviously, with a TP lens).

3. Ease of use. Makes my old digital camera seem like a rocket guidance system handbook. You can literally take this out of the box, charge the battery and start taking great photos. Also, it plugged straight into my Apple without missing a beat.

4. Transition from old EOS cameras. This is the same as my old 35mm SLR camera...but digital. All my old lenses work and my filters and all of the buttons are in the same place. Using the Av mode was like stepping back into an old pair of slippers.

5. Diatropic adjustment. I can use the camera without my glasses! Woohoo!

6. Battery life. If you turn off the picture preview pane then you can use this camera for a long, long time before the battery runs dry.

The Bad:

1. No memory card supplied. I think that this is a bit tight. They could have chucked in just a 128Mb card, just so you could take a few photos for fun and then gone out and bought a 2Gb card. Memory is cheap, Canon are tight. We're talking £30 here!

2. The lens supplied sucks. Great if you want to take pictures of bugs but not great for much else. Luckily I had some old lenses which turn this camera into a very decent piece of kit.

3. LCD is a touch small. It's not a major gripe but it did make me hum and ahh for a bit over the 350D's bigger brother. It does the job, but you do need a computer to really see your final results.

Overall this is a brilliant camera and is pretty future proof in terms of resolution - but, buy a new lens and don't forget that memory card!

I bought the Panasonic TM900 a few weeks ago as a back up camcorder to my more professional kit for making artists video works about landscape and nature. Since receiving the camcorder it seems to follow me wherever I go, it is just so small and convenient to have around. As I am writing this review it is right next to me as I have been filming birds just outside my studio window. This sums up what is excellent about the camcorder, it it just so easy to operate, carry around with you and delivers stunning broadcast quality footage. I just don't carry my bigger professional camcorders around because of their bulk so I was missing a lot of interesting footage. The image quality is stunning in the 1080 50p mode beating many professional models in decent light conditions. The Leica lens is beautiful and the automatic and manual controls are superb giving plenty of scope to manually adjust to Zebra warning or adjust exposure, focus or white balance. The intelligent Zoom gives a nice 20x magnification which covers most requirements but a 1.8 or 2 times tele adaptor would be brilliant if Panasonic provided one. Macro works very well and is easy to focus up quickly. The touch screen works brilliantly and offers easy access to you footage all nicely listed by date and the mini HDMI cable takes it straight into the large screen TV or Video projector. I was on a fly fishing trip recently and had the camcorder in my pocket ready to pull out when something interesting presented itself, to have this level of image quality in your pocket is a dream for me and it has already paid for itself by providing footage I would never have got without it. The flip out 3 inch screen is tremendous, very sharp and detailed and the added steady shot facility accessed from the screen works really well. The top zoom lever is something I really love as it gives a beautifully slow, silky smooth zoom which is something I spent a fortune on adding zoom mechanisim's to my professional camcorders.
The downsides of the camcorder are that the photo quality is not as good as a dedicated still camera but I find that the stills from the 1080 50p footage are very good and actually better than the photo images. There is no waterproofing to speak of but it is no surprise for a camcorder of this price ( compared to a professional camcorder delivering this standard of image quality). The 50 p footage requires an up to date powerful computer to edit with but 50p will start to become normal and computers and software will be more readably available.
All said and done I really love this little camcorder as a tool for producing video works for broadcast and art gallery installations.I couldn't recommend it highly enough, well done Panasonic.

I really was amazed at the quality of the footage when recording in 1080p 50. It was even better than satellite broadcast TV! The sound, when played through my Sony surround sound system is fantastic. I could not hear any noise from the fan (even in silent rooms). However, in windy situations the sound quality is severely interfered with.

I have only recorded so far in full HD. I have yet to try the other modes but I can assume they are every bit as good as anything else on the market.

I am delighted with this purchase. Picture quality is amazing and sound quality, when there's no wind, is very, very good. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone. It's easy to use and gives amazing results. My friends and family were astonished by the picture and sound quality. The camera is also exceptional in low light filming. No noise whatsoever when recording in dim light. Colour is bright and vibrant. If you're looking for an easy to use camera that provides exceptional picture quality and great Dolby surround sound, look no further. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Astonishing picture, fan polluted audio..., 11 Mar 2011

I just got the tm 900 last week. Picture quality of this unit is simply unbelivable. Very natural colours and extremely sharp picture. The manual functions are all great, including the really nice multifunction focus-ring. So on the picture side, could not be more pleased. However, there is of course the fan issue which, i'm sorry to say, is still an issue. I don't have any experience with the previous 700 series so i can't really compare the two, but the fan on the 900 is very much audible. I would go so far as to say, that had it not been for the ext. mic input, i would probably consider returning it. I find it very strange that they didn't take this more seriously, as i am sure this will give the 900 series the same ongoing "fan-fear" as the 700.
One feature i would like though, is to have it be pal/ntsc switchable, or just 50p/60p switchable. This because 50p footage has the jitters when played back on pc screens, as most screens have a refreshrate of 60hz, hence optimal for 60p. The difference is very much noticeable. Plus, 60p is much more workable for internet use; youtube, vimeo etc. all use 30 fps which makes 50p look jerky. Hope they release some new firmware that makes this possible.

ATC-2K action camera, 23 Jan 2007

I went on holiday during the Xmas break and it was snowing where I was. Obviously I came prepared with jacket, hat, gloves etc. I was a bit concerned about turning my ATC-2K cam on and off though. I didn't want to take my gloves off just to do that. Turned out fine though, I just listened for the beeping noise it makes for on and off. Also, the manual says to use a heat pouch it sells, or is planning on selling, in cold weather along with lithium batteries. At times the temp was below freezing and my cam worked fine without either! There was one time when it was a bit slow though so I took out the batts and held them in my hand for a minute to warm them up. It went back to its normal speed after that. It's a plug and play cam so no need to use a CD to install, just the USB cord. The video quality obviously isn't as good as a normal video camera but that's expected as it's designed for extreme sports. It's also a handy size, fits into my pocket easily and only needs 2 AA batts.
